Marvelously Made - Hide it in your heart devotional series

This is such an exciting journey we are a taking together!

God reveals Himself through his Word and through His Creation and He loves when we take the time to reflect on His truth.

Imagine the joy that fills His heart as our loving Heavenly Father sees a child marvel at how high they jumped or when we are captivated by a beautiful sunset. He made all that for us! Maybe He’s saying: Oh, that’s it! See how I love you! Turn your gaze towards me and let me show you more!

I pray we never lose sight of that wonder. That we may see through their eyes and turn our hearts to God in worship at what He has made!

We can easily read God’s Word and move on to the rest of our day and remain unmoved and unchanged. However, when we stop and think upon the Words God has given us. He breathes upon it and His Holy Spirit stirs our heart to awaken that wonder and response of praise.

God’s word is like the rain that falls to the earth and will not return to Him void. It will accomplish His purpose. That is exactly what we want to declare over our lives, our families, country. That is life changing!

Isaiah 55: 8-11

For my thoughts are not your thoughts,
neither are your ways my ways, declares the Lord.
For as the heavens are higher than the earth,
so are my ways higher than your ways
and my thoughts than your thoughts.

10 “For as the rain and the snow come down from heaven
and do not return there but water the earth,
making it bring forth and sprout,
giving seed to the sower and bread to the eater,
11 so shall my word be that goes out from my mouth;
it shall not return to me empty,
but it shall accomplish that which I purpose,
and shall succeed in the thing for which I sent it
.

That is what we will be cultivating with this exciting series. We want to take the time to write His Word on our heart. To really let it go deep in our hearts and spring up the life and fruit we were meant to bear. We want to lead our children in a conversation about scripture and science and all that God has made and think WOW, I am loved. God speaks to me too! God KNOWS me and hears me. I am fearfully and wonderfully made!

By leading this, you might rediscover a new love of scripture and might see a love for God being ignited in your children’s eyes. You are also arming yourselves with TRUTH. We cannot share what we do not know. We need to know God, know what He says to stand firm when hard times come. Let’s give them the tools to discover that for themselves and believe God will ignite that flame as we seek Him together.

In this first week, I want to encourage you to read Psalm139 as a family. Have everyone ready with their own notebook because God loves to inspire our hearts and we want to be ready to write that down to think on later. Explain about this divine treasure hunt and that God’s Word has many treasures that God has for each of us. Be intentional to let them come up with their own words. Sometimes we are quick to speak but, in this exercise, they can attend to what was read and express themselves as you ask these prompting questions:

  • Is there a part of this (chapter, verse, or word) that pops out at you? You can write these down as they all share. Does it remind you of something you have seen? (talk about those words that evoke imagery. Get your Essentials students to think on the use of some words in a passage to see the importance of what is being said. Feast with your Challenge Students on what has been shared)

  • What does this tell me about who God is?

  • Given what we know from God’s Word in this passage(s), what does that say about ME? What does God say about ME? (This world can send confusing messages about who we are or are meant to be. Knowing more about God and what He says about me means that what HE says about me is something I KNOW. Since God will never change, what He said of me will never change. I can stand on that Truth to navigate)

  • Given what we learned about God in this passage, and what we now know about Him, what can we praise Him for?

Since Week 1 science is about the Types of Tissue, look back at the passages you saw and focus in on these verses. (v:1-4, 7-12, 13-16, 17-18 and pray v:23-24). What do they tell us about how we were made? We are God’s creations and as we learn how we are made we also learn about How HE made us and loves us. Encourage your children to see what all those types of tissue we saw in new grammar this week, are a part of who we are. Without them we don’t hold together! I’m sure your children can come up with some interesting visuals of what we would look like without muscles! Based on the passage(s) we read, we know that God was there since our beginning and that He KNIT us together. That HE KNOWS us. That HE thinks of us. That WE can never flee from His presence. When we don’t have the words, HE knows our deepest heart, so we can just come!

Reflect on what that might mean and enjoy the journey with your family. Pray together in praise for what you have learned about God together. We were made to feast on His Word. It is literally life to our body and science this year is a great way to start that discovery!

We have provided a free printable for you to enjoy with your family, or even as part of assembly in CC Community. It indicates a scripture passage for each week that you can then compare with that week’s science grammar. You can use the questions listed above to guide the treasure hunt.

Remember to keep it simple. Focus on one verse if you need to. Tend to it during the week and talk about it throughout your day. Live it out creatively as a family. How can you share that truth with others? Remember to let them lead with their own words. What our children share will undoubtedly speak to our hearts as well. We need to be reminded to see the Word through their eyes too. And they will learn from us what it is like to genuinely love the Lord’s presence by our example. We want to demonstrate the simplicity of the gospel, to come as we are, feast on His Word and let the Holy Spirit teach us in ALL things!

Let us know what impact these conversations have made in your family, community, area!
